Nanobyte CMS was a Content Management System built for speed and cusomizability. It was a 3 year project designed and developed solely by myself - Michael Conway.

Now, you may be asking yourself "What has become of Nanobyte?".

While the answer itself is not necessarily simple, there were a few factors that brought me to the decision to stop development on the project.

  1. Time - Of course time plays a role in everything. I had put in excess of over 800 hours into Nanobyte. In that time I learned more than I had ever hoped to (that is the reason I began Nanobyte in the first place). Unfortunately, with my full-time job and my company, it was beginning become infeasible to continue.
  2. Other Projects - Whenever I had spare time, I felt obligated to continue working on Nanobyte. While that in itself is not bad, I have a long list of project Ideas that haven't ever been tried or tested, and I believe it is about time I move on.
  3. Concrete5 - This is the single biggest reason I "boxed" Nanobyte. Concrete5 is an Amazing CMS. It is, for all intents and purposes, the CMS that I wanted Nanobyte to be. To that end, I came to the conclusion that I should stop re-inventing the wheel, and focus on re-inventing sliced bread (that last pun was probably not funny, but refers to the fact that I am working on a CRM as one of my new projects, which has also been done several times).

So, with that said, I somewhat sadly conclude that NanobyteCMS (at least in its current form) is no longer being maintained. If you would like to see the code behind the beast, it will be perpetually available on GitHub, and I hope it helps other aspiring developers hone their skills. My work on Nanobyte is the reason I am a professional PHP developer today.
