HD-DVD losing the Format War?

[nodeinfo|61|body|0.42654800 1199826990][inline_autoadd][image=1]Early today, I have received several emails from readers stating that Warner Bros. had defected support to Blu-Ray starting May 2008. This news may just about end the format war once and for all.

For the past Year, I have been betting on HD-DVD to win the war, and even got an HD-DVD drive for Christmas. With this news, it looks like I may have been backing the wrong player. After Warner Bros. announced they will be Blu-Ray exclusive in May, 20 smaller companies currently behind HD-DVD are teetering on the edge of defection as well. HD-DVD has a few trump cards left however, and may be able to pull out of this triumphant. These companies include both Paramount and Microsoft. As you know, Microsoft has been pushing HD-DVD through sales of the HD-DVD drive add-on for the XBOX360, while Sony has been integrating Blu-Ray players into PS3 units from the start.

I feel this may be the sad end for HD-DVD, stay tuned.

In the mean-time, here, here and here are more links to Format War news.

I don't think I'll ever

I don't think I'll ever understand why blu ray is better than hd-dvd.

You're looking at the same quality of video but the cost of blu ray is so much higher to produce than HD-DVD.

However, I read some articles yesterday that explains that bluray is a much easier process to produce. I guess there is a lot of confusion on HD-DVD production, encoding, etc... of which is all a headache when all you want to do is release a movie. It seems like Warner Bros. gave every chance possible for HD-DVD to take the crown, but dropped the ball tremendously.

This is why I didn't buy a player. I'm waiting for this "war" to come to an end so I can finally just go out and buy one piece of technology.

I agree

Toshiba definitely dropped the ball on HD-DVD, maybe they took the hint this time after losing Warner?
